I talked with a listener last week who was shaky with nerves because she had a big job interview coming up and she was really worried about being rejected. But she has been unhappy in her current job, and is excited enough about this new opportunity to shake off the fear of rejection and muster up the courage to go through with it.
Rejection hurts. There is no way to sugarcoat it. When you don't get the job, or your husband walks out on you, or a close friend betrays you...it can make you feel worthless. Maybe you've doubted your abilities because you've been rejected. I know I have. But I also know had it not been for the many rejections in my life, I would not have been forced to move in a new direction to end up where I am today.
When I look back on some of the major events in my life, specifically the trials and rejections, I can always find the lesson. Looking back now, I can see the reason I was supposed to go thru what I did; I find the silver lining. Whether it was a marriage that dissolved or getting fired or a move I didn't want to make, I always came out better in the end. Even though the end didn't always come as fast as I would've liked it to, I can see now how God was working in my life then to improve me as a whole.
The next time you're feeling rejected, instead of asking "What did I do to deserve this?" ask yourself, "What can I learn from this?" Allow yourself to be disappointed but then charge yourself to pick up the pieces and move on -- because the opportunity that is meant for you is just around the bend...
